Can Dairy Products Cause Constipation?
Constipation is an occurrence where food moves in a slow pace during digestion process causing difficult or fewer bowel movements. It can happen to practically anybody at any stage of life.
There are several causes of constipation. To name only some, stress is one cause. Stress is not quantifiable. Different people have different stress levels but there is no doubt that if one cannot effectively handle stress it will manifest in many bodily disturbances which includes constipation.
Lack of exercise is another leading contributor to constipation. The digestive muscles need to be toned to better facilitate bowel movement and that cannot happen effectively to someone who is primarily living a sedentary life. Lack of physical activity is never helpful in so many levels. In the modern world, exercise has been proven a significant component to one’s well-being.
Speaking of diet, prepared foods are major culprits of constipation as well. Some of these foods include canned goods or anything that is steamed, fried, baked or even cooked. They generally cause constipation when it is the only source of one’s daily sustenance. This happens with a very busy lifestyle.
Prepared foods sorely lack the natural fiber content that goes with the original state of the food due to processing mainly for better shelf life.
Too Much Dairy Products Cause Constipation
Dairy products are good examples of prepared food. Some very popular examples are different varieties of milk, cheese, yogurt, ice cream, sour cream, butter. Cheese is one of the most refined prepared foods around. We see cheese in almost everything like in sandwiches, pasta, dishes in our everyday meals. Food from burger restaurants almost always have cheese in them.
Dairy products are dangerous when taken in excess which can almost always happen because they are so easily available in the market. These products are ever present in our everyday existence. Milk, for example, is one of most common dairy products that give a lot of people constipation . A good number of people are intolerant to the proteins found in milk which leads to constipation.
Dairy products have small amounts of opiod peptides. Peptides are the constituent parts of protein which dairy products are known to have. These peptides are not fully broken down during digestion. They are indigestible and can block the colon (part of the large intestine) which can eventually lead to constipation.
Dairy products have low fiber content due to the processing they often undergo. As mentioned before, a diet that is low in fiber content surely paves the way for constipation to happen.
The key is moderation when it comes to dairy products. If taken in reasonable amounts, these food products cannot give anyone constipation. Moreover, you can check out other foods that will make you constipated in the list of 10 top foods that cause constipation.
